Amazon Has Plenty to Be Cheerful About Right Now
January 28th 2012 -
If appearances are anything to go by, Amazon seems to be winning the Kindle Touch vs Nook Touch battle at the moment. Sales of the Kindle were high over the festive season, whereas Barnes and Noble, somewhat inadvisedly, announced that sales of the Nook Simple Touch were below projected figures.
B&N later advised that Nook sales were up 70% on the same period last year and that the problem was actually with an overly optimistic sales forecast. However, that information was too little too late and the company’s share price took a hit based on the “bad news”.
Amazon is, on the other hand, positively upbeat – and not without good reason. Apart from seeing off B&N in the ebook reader stakes, Amazon is also establishing a good share of the tablet computer market. According to some analysts, Amazon now has a 39% share of the tablet market. A remarkable feat considering that the Kindle Fire only started shipping in the middle of November 2011.
